Icy Church1

ID#1809, b. 8 September 1894
Father: John Wesley "J. W." Church
Mother: Anna Arena Hathaway

Birth date: 8 September 1894
Birth place: Calhoun County, West Virginia.2

Icy's birth month is shown as October in the 1900 federal census, but the ages given for her on both the 1900 and 1910 censuses as well as on her marriage license indicate that she would have been born in July or earlier in 1894.3,4 I suspect that she fudged a little when she said she was 18 years old when she got married so no parental consent had to be given. She would have been within two months of turning 18.1

An alternate spelling of her first name is Icie.4

Icy married Jesse Ball on 21 July 1912 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. J. S. Sharps, a Minister of the Gospel, certified that he united them in marriage at the residence of Wm. Ball.1 It's interesting that the marriage license identifies the residence for both Jesse and Icy as "Sycamore County, W. Va." ... Sycamore is an unincorporated community in Calhoun County.

Compared to another name (Fred) on the same page of the 1910 U.S. census, William's middle initial was incorrectly recorded as a "T" rather than an "F."4

At age 95, William died on 28 September 1992 at Akron, Summit County, Ohio.2
