John died from typhoid on 23 March 1861 at Rosby, Marshall County, Virginia.1 Alternatively, his death as recorded on his gravestone was one day earlier on the 22nd.3 John's body was interred in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia; his name appears on the gravestone as "John L. Gibson." The inscription reads, "Died Mar. 22, 1861."4,3
