Roy's first marriage was to Delores Alma Miller on 24 June 1939 at Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia. As Delores was only 19 years old, consent was given by Mrs. Mike Miller. L. E. Resseger, a Minister of the Methodist Church, certified that he united them in marriage.2

His second marriage was to Ruth Virginia Kittle on 1 September 1945 at Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia. J. H. Carson, a minister of the Calvary Methodist Church, certified that he united them in marriage.3

Roy died at age 69 in January 1974.4 Roy's body was interred in 1974 in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia; his name appears on the gravestone as "Roy L. McGary." The inscription reads, "Roy L. McGary father and Ruth V. McGary mother."5
