Sample's first marriage was to Ellen Loudenslager, daughter of Joseph W. Loudenslager and Sidney Ingram, on 21 October 1858 at Marshall County, West Virginia.3

He became a widower when Ellen died on 25 December 1865.4

His second marriage was to Sarah A. Mitchel, daughter of Benjamin James and Mary (unknown), on 5 April 1868 at Fork Ridge, Marshall County, West Virginia.1

Sample died in 1876.2 Sample's body was interred in the Cameron Cemetery, Cameron, Marshall County, West Virginia. His name reportedly appears on the gravestone as "Sample C. Parker," with an inscription that reads, "1833 - 1876."2
