John's first marriage was to Catherine/Carolina Burley (her given name is questionable, appearing as Catherine in the 1850 federal census but as Carolina Burley on her daughter's death certificate.3

He is identified as John Parker Jr. on the record of his second marriage.4

His second marriage was to Levina (Harris) Nixon, daughter of John Harris and Nancy Agnes Binnegar, on 10 October 1852 in Marshall County, Virginia. She was the widow of John Robert Nixon; he was the widower of Catherine Burley. Lewis Janney (sp.), a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, certified that he united them in marriage.4

John died in 1895.5 John's body was interred in the Cameron Cemetery, Cameron, Marshall County, West Virginia. His name reportedly appears on the gravestone as "John J. Parker," with an inscription that reads, "1818 - 1895."5
