Known as Bessie based on the song written by her brother, Alfred, after her death at a young age3 and as Barbary per the inscription on her gravestone.4

Barbary died at age 13 from fever on 21 December 1871 at Fork Ridge, Marshall County, West Virginia.6 Barbara's body was interred in the Bethel Cemetery, Bowman Ridge, Marshall County, West Virginia.7 B. has also been reported to have died on 22 December 1872; Found in a second death register that appears on the WV Vital Research Records site.
