According to courthouse records, Clara died from lung disease on 19 March 1880 in Marshall County, West Virginia. Although the death record identified Clara's parents as "Jno. and M. J.," Mary J. was actually her step-mother.2

In contrast to the info recorded in the death register, Clara's gravestone indicates that she died 10 days later on the 29th of March, and that her age at death was 19 years 4 months 10 days vs. 18 years 4 months 10 days.3 Interred in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia, her name appears on the gravestone as "Clara A". An additional inscription reads, "Daughter of J. & Eliza Love, Died Mar 29 1880, Aged 19 Ys. 4 Ms. 10 Ds."3
