Martha died at age 101 on 6 February 1982 at Mound View Nursing Home (now the Mound View Health Care Center), Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia.3,1

An obituary was published on 7 February 1982.4,1 The following is a transcription of that obituary:

"CENTENARIAN SUCCUMBS--
     Services will be held Tuesday for 101 year old MARTHA VIRGINIA STEWART of Moundsville who died Saturday in the Mound View Nursing Home.
     She was born Sept 13, 1880 in Glen Easton, the daughter of the late Samuel M. and Martha Jefferson Stewart. She was a licensed practical nurse in the Moundsville-Wheeling area and was a member of the First Christian Church of Moundsville.
     Miss Stewart also held memberships in the Wheeling Woman's Club and the Moundsville Republic Woman's Club. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. William F. (Hazel) Hopkins of Moundsville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Homer Stewart and Mrs. Carson Stewart; several nieces and nephews.
     Friends received at the Grisell Funeral Home, 400 Jefferson Ave. Moundsville, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and from 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of services at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment in Fork Ridge Christian Church Cemetery, Moundsville"

A memorial service for Martha was conducted on 9 February 1982 at Grisell Funeral Home, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia.4 Martha's body was interred on 9 February 1982 in the Fork Ridge Christian Church Cemetery, 8681 Fork Ridge Road, Glen Easton, Marshall County, West Virginia; her name appears on the gravestone as "Martha V. Stewart."4
