Mary married Samuel McKinney Stewart, son of Samuel Stewart and Sarah Wilson, on 22 August 1867 at Cameron, Marshall County, West Virginia. The minister, David Anguish, certified that he married them at "the house of the bride's mother."1,3

Mary died at age 21 from consumption on 5 February 1870 at Fork Ridge, Marshall County, West Virginia.4 Mary's body was interred in the Nixon family cemetery, Fork Ridge, Glen Easton, Marshall County, West Virginia. Her name reportedly appears on the gravestone as "Mary Stewart," with an inscription that reads, "w/o Samuel ~ 21 yrs 10 mo 5 days."2
