Samuel E. Clark1

ID#34, b. 25 August 1853, d. 1 June 1936
Samuel E. Clark
Father: Anderson Clark
Mother: Mary Ann Emerick

Birth date: 25 August 1853.2 It has also been reported that Samuel was born in August 1852.3
Birth place: Washington County, Pennsylvania.4,5 It has also been reported that Samuel was born in (West) Virginia.3,1 Interestingly, the 1920 U.S. Federal Census states that Samuel was born in Kansas - which was true for his younger sister, Clara, born circa 1864. However, before the family was living in Kansas, they spent time in Iowa and Missouri. Working backwards in time to look at the birth's of Samuel's siblings, the family was in Missouri around 1862 when Martha was born. They were in Iowa for the births of William (circa 1860) and Mary (circa 1857), and were enumerated in the Iowa 1856 state census. Melissa was born in Pennsylvania circa 1855, and Samuel was born before her ... indicating a strong probability that he was born in Pennsylvania too, just as appears on his marriage record.6

Samuel married Margaret A. Shimp, daughter of Isaac Shimp and Sarah Margaret Shutts, on 27 July 1876 at Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia. H. C. Sanford, a minister, certified that he united them in marriage.4
