Homer married Vera Church, daughter of Eli Church and Lenora Susan "Nora" Summers, on 24 November 1934 at Wellsburg, Brooke County, West Virginia. B. D. Evans, a minister, certified that he united them in marriage1

Homer died at age 63 on 17 June 1973.5 Homer's body was interred in the Fork Ridge Christian Church Cemetery, 8681 Fork Ridge Road, Glen Easton, Marshall County, West Virginia; his name appears on the gravestone as "Homer R. Blake." The inscription reads, "Father."5
