William's first marriage was to May McCune on 15 October 1898 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. Whitt Stump was the officiating minister for the ceremony, which took place at the residence of the bride.4,5

His second marriage was to Mary C. Core, daughter of David F. Core and Ellen D. Paden, on 23 February 1901 in Calhoun County, West Virginia.4,6

William died at age 78 from arteriosclerosis (thickening of the arterial walls that impairs blood circulation) on 14 April 1955 at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, Wetzel County, West Virginia. His death certificate states that he had fallen on the floor at home and fractured his hip.2

His body was interred on 17 April 1955 in the Harmony Cemetery, Burton, Wetzel County, West Virginia.2
