Arthur married Louisa Perkins, daughter of Reuben Perkins and Mary Groves, on 14 November 1854 in Belmont County, Ohio. Wm. Lucas, J.P., certified that he united them in marriage.5

Arthur died at age 76 from Bright's disease on 27 April 1899 at Fork Ridge, Marshall County, West Virginia. Bright's disease was old term that referred to various forms of kidney disease.1 Arthur has also been reported to have died on 28 April 1899.3 Arthur's body was interred in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia; his name appears on the gravestone as "Arthur McGary."6
