Emma V. Parks1

ID#3335, b. 15 May 1867, d. 30 July 1925
Father: William H. Parks
Mother: Caroline Harris

Birth date: 15 May 1867
Birth place: West Virginia.1,2

Emma's first marriage was to John Hart.3 John apparently died sometime before 01 June 1900, the enumeration date of the 1900 U.S. Census. With a marital status of "widowed," Emma and her 6-year-old daughter Carrie were living in the household of Caroline Parks by that time, identified as Caroline's daughter and granddaughter.4

Her second marriage was to George W. Oliver on 12 December 1909 at Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia. James A. Lawrence, Pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, certified that he united the couple in marriage. Per the license, George was 36 and single; Emma was 42 and divorced; and her surname was given as Hart, as expected per her first marriage. As Emma was identified as a widow in the 1900 U.S. Census, it is unclear why this license shows her marital status as divorced. As her surname was still Hart, it seems unlikely that there was another marriage before this one - it will take more research to resolve the question.5

At age 58, Emma died from a pulminary cyst on 30 July 1925 at Fairview, Marshall County, West Virginia.6 She was interred on 1 August 1925 in the Mt. Rose Cemetery, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia.6
