Alfred Jordan McCloy1
ID#1191, b. 22 September 1894, d. 2 April 1976
Parents: Wilson McCloy and Isabella Morris
Birth date: 22 September 1894
Birth place: Juniata, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.2,3,4,5 It was reported on the Find A Grave memorial for Rev. McCloy I viewed in 2018 that he was born at Juniattaville, Pennsylvania.1 However, his obituary gives his place of birth as Juniata, Pennsylvania. That made a lot more sense to me, as Google searches could never find any results for Juniattaville ... but did suggest Juniata as an alternative. But then, I found his marriage license that does indeed give his birthplace as "Juniattaville, Pa."6,3 But then, I found his marriage license that does indeed give his birthplace as "Juniattaville, Pa."7 So, I went back to Find A Grave and low and behold, it had been updated sometime between 2018 and 2022 to show Alfred's birthplace as Juniata, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.58 All of this leaves me wondering if perhaps Juniattaville was a locally known name for Juniata?
Most commonly known as Rev. A. J. McCloy3 he was a minister at various churches including the Fork Ridge Christian Church, 8681 Fork Ridge Road, Glen Easton, Marshall County, West Virginia. He was so loved by his church family there that some of them had him officiate their wedding ceremonies even after he had moved to another church location.
Alfred's first marriage was to Elizabeth Jane Harrison on 26 April 1915 at Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. H. F. Hanes, a Minister of the Gospel, certified that he united the couple in marriage.7 Unfortunately, Alfred became a widower when Elizabeth died in 1921 per her gravestone.9
At age 81, Alfred died on 2 April 1976 at Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.3 An obituary was published on 3 April 1976 in that city's newspaper, The Evening Standard.3 The following is a transcription of that obituary from page 10:
A second obituary was printed the same day on page 17:
Interred in the Mount Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, his name appears as "Rev. A. J. McCloy" on the gravestone shared with his second wife, Amanda Martin, whose name appears as "Amanda M. McCloy." Additional inscriptions read, "1894-1976" for Rev. McCloy and"1900-1991" for Amanda.3,1
