Anna Arena Hathaway1
ID#1220, b. October 1873, d. 21 February 1966
Father: Francis Hathaway
Mother: Clory McCulty
Birth date: October 1873
Birth place: Calhoun County, West Virginia.2,3,4
It has also been reported that her name was Annie Irene. I believe that Annie was simply a nickname for Anna. As for her middle name, Irene is very similar to two spellings I have seen: Arena and Arina.3 Her name has also been read as Annie L. from her gravestone - perhaps an "I" for Irene was misread as an "L"? More research is needed to clear up all the questions.5
Anna married John Wesley "J. W." Church, son of William S. "Bill" Church and Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" Roberts, on 15 September 1888 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. The ceremony was performed by Jesse B. Poling.4
She became a widow at age 76 when John died on 28 December 1949.6
At the time of her death, Annie's home was on a farm outside the city limits of Grantsville, Calhoun County, West Virginia.3 She died at age 92 from a stroke (occlusion of brain vessel) due to cerebral arteriosclersis on 21 February 1966. The informant listed on Annie's death certificate was her eldest daughter, Luerna Robinson.3 She was interred in the Sand Ridge Cemetery, Lee District, Calhoun County, West Virginia.3,5

Ellen D. Paden1,2
ID#1229, b. June 1846
Father: John Paden
Mother: Catharine Farmsworth
Birth date: June 1846.3 It has also been suggested that she was born about 1848.4
Birth place: Ohio.5 The 1900 federal census recorded Ellen's birthplace as West Virginia, which would still have been part of Virginia at the time of her birth. I have my doubts as she was in her fourth marriage at the time and it's possible that her husband may have been the informant. It seems more likely that the earlier censuses that all show Ohio as her birthplace are the accurate reports.3
Ellen married David F. Core on 20 December 1868 in Tyler County, West Virginia.6,1
After her first husband died, her second marriage was to Bazel R. Hamer on 25 December 1881 in Ritchie County, West Virginia. The ceremony was performed by James A. Hogue.7
Ellen's third marriage was to John Thompson on 1 February 1895 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. Although his first wife has not yet been identified, John was reportedly a widower.8
After being widowed for the third time, Ellen's fourth marriage was to Alfred Berry, son of Robert Berry and E. (unknown), on 16 August 1898 in Calhoun County, West Virginia.9
