Samuel Church1
ID#1412, b. about 1815, d. 26 February 1894

ID#1414, b. about 1797, d. 1866
Father: Rev. Alexander Summers
Mother: Mary Ann Vinagar
Birth date: about 1797
Birth place: Maryland
Location is supported by the fact that his parents were married in Frederick County, Maryland on 25 February 1797, and that his father is the head of a household residing in Montgomery County, Maryland per the 1800 U.S. Census.2
His first marriage was reportedly to Phoebe Williams on 20 August 1821 in Monongalia County, Virginia. I have not yet officially confirmed this date and location.3
He became a widower when Phoebe died before 1850.3
His second marriage was to Rachel (Reed) VanGilder before 1 June 1850.4,2 Their blended family of Summers and VanGilder children is reflected in the U.S. Federal Census of 1850.2
David obviously died in the spring of 1866 as the will he wrote in April was probated in May.5

Glenn Summers1
ID#1428, b. 18 May 1908, d. 13 June 1949
Father: Walter Henry Summers
Mother: Sarah Jane Sampson
Birth date: 18 May 1908
Birth place: Altizer, Calhoun County, West Virginia.1
Glenn married Sylva Haney, daughter of Mont Long and Florence Esta Smith, on 19 November 1927 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. G. G. Griffin certified that he united them in marriage at his residence. Sylvia's surname had changed from Long to Haney due to her mother's divorce from Mont Long and second marriage to Asa Haney.2 Glenn Summers was a farmer.
At the time of Glenn's death, his address was Grantsville, Calhoun County, West Virginia.1 He died at age 41 due to advanced silicosis related to coronary thrombosis on 13 June 1949 at Boling Clinic, Grantsville, Calhoun County, West Virginia. The death certificate was signed by J. S. Boling, M.D.1
Glenn's body was interred two days later on 15 June 1949 in the Snyder Chapel Cemetery, Calhoun County, West Virginia; his name appears on the gravestone as "Glenna Summers." Cemetery name spelled incorrectly as "Snider" on the death certificate.1
The license for Sylvia's marriage in 1962 indicates that she was divorced. I had initially assumed that she became a widow when Glenn died at the young age of 41 in 1949, but this status leaves me wondering about other possibilities. Did she and Glenn get divorced? Did she marry after Glenn's death and subsequently get divorced?
Click on camera icon(s) to view photo(s) of gravestone, then use your browser's back button to return here. Inscription reads, "Together Forever." Although Sylvia's name appears on the stone with her first husband, I have not yet determined whether or not she is actually buried there. The fact that the year of her death was not added to the joint stone raises the question of whether she might instead be buried with her second husband in McCray Cemetery. However, I have not found her name in lists of the burials there ... more research is needed.3

ID#1429, b. 9 May 1909
Father: Mont Long
Mother: Florence Esta Smith
Birth date: 9 May 1909
Birth place: Arnoldsburg, Calhoun County, West Virginia.2,1
Another spelling of her first name is Sylva, which appears on several records. It seems likely that she was adopted by her mother's second husband, Asa Haney, as the maiden name of Haney was used on the record of her first marriage. i.e. Sylva Haney.3
Sylva's first marriage was to Glenn Summers, son of Walter Henry Summers and Sarah Jane Sampson, on 19 November 1927 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. G. G. Griffin certified that he united them in marriage at his residence. Sylvia's surname had changed from Long to Haney due to her mother's divorce from Mont Long and second marriage to Asa Haney.3
On 8 August 1962 in Wood County, West Virginia, Sylvia applied for a marriage license with Thomas Jefferson Headley, son of Harriett Woodring.1 As of that date, she was living R.F.D. #3, at Elizabeth, West Virginia.1

Her second marriage was to Thomas Jefferson Headley, son of Harriett Woodring, on 11 August 1962 at Annamoriah, Calhoun County, West Virginia. Rev. Bud D. Graham, minister of the Methodist Church, certified that he united the couple in marriage.1

Father: Daniel Colonel Church

Although his first name was spelled as Earnest in records from his early years, it seems to not be the way he preferred and used. He signed his WWII draft card without the "a" and his gravestone also has no "a" ... so I have accepted Ernest rather than Earnest as his first name.2
