Per the 1860 U.S. census, it appeared that Josephus Brookover and Katharine (unknown) were candidates to be Abraham's parents;² however, the informant on the marriage record for A. P. Brookover, Jr. and Sarah Jane Roberts was none other than A. P. Brookover, Sr., making it appear that there would have been two Abraham P. Brookovers being father and son. More research is needed to know the details of Abraham's parents.¹

Abraham married Sarah Jane Roberts, daughter of Alexander H. "Alec" Roberts and Lavina Ellen Ensminger, on 16 June 1878 in Wetzel County, West Virginia. Samuel Hanen, a minister of the Christian Church, certified that he united them in marriage at Mrs. Roberts', the bride's mother.¹

Per most records I have seen, it appears that Abraham did not use the "Jr." suffix that appears on his marriage record.²

Although John's wife gave his year of birth as 1889 on his death certificate, I believe that is most likely incorrect. When John signed up for the WWI draft, he gave his date of birth as 20 December 1886 and his age as 30. I found a J. J. Brookover born on that date in Wetzel County, West Virginia, per a Birth Register Index. The index is typed and would have been transcribed from a birth register that was probably handwritten. That could explain why the parents of J. J. are listed as A. R. and I. J. Brookover when they should be A. P. and S. J. Brookover. At this point, I believe that 1886 is most likely the correct year of John's birth.²

On 6 April 1917, the United States declared war on Germany and officially entered World War I. As a result of the Selective Service Act passed on 18 May 1917, every male living within the United States between the ages of 18 and 45 was required to register for the draft during one of three separate registration periods. The first registration was held 5 June 1917 for men aged 21 to 31. At age 30, John registered in Madison County, Indiana, and was described as follows: medium height, black eyes, black hair, not bald, no disability.⁴

As of 5 June 1917, when he registered for the draft, John was employed by the Ames Shovel & Tool Co. and was living at 771 Delaware Street, Anderson, Indiana.⁴

At age 43, John died from pulmonary tuberculosis on 23 February 1930 at Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.¹ He was buried on 25 February 1930 at Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.¹
