I have found conflicting information in the 1870 and 1880 federal census reports for the children of John A. and Isabella Harris. They have a 2-year-old son in 1870 named Alba, but a 12-year-old daughter in 1880 named Clara E. - and my guess is that they are the same child but recorded incorrectly in one of the years. Unfortunately, I have not yet found anything to resolve the issue.2

ID#2155, b. 25 October 1887, d. 27 August 1925
Father: William Clemens "Clem" McGary
Mother: Ella May Dakan
Birth date: 25 October 1887
Birth place: Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia.1,2
John married Emma Williams on 17 April 1910 at Waldo, Columbia County, Arkansas.3
On 6 April 1917, the United States declared war on Germany and officially entered World War I. As a result of the Selective Service Act passed on 18 May 1917, every male living within the United States between the ages of 18 and 45 was required to register for the draft during one of three separate registration periods. The first registration was held 5 June 1917 for men aged 21 to 31. At age 29, John registered in Blackford County, Indiana, and was described as follows: tall, medium build, brown eyes, dark hair, not bald.4 He was employed at Maxwell Motor Works New Castle, Indiana, and was living at 331 West Kickapoo Street, Hartford City, Indiana.4
At age 37, John died on 27 August 1925 at New Castle, Henry County, Indiana. The cause of his death at so young an age was identified as "acute parenchymatous nephritis" with a contributary cause of tonsillitis. Breaking this down: nephritis is inflammation of the kidneys; parenchymatous refers to organ tissue; acute indicates short duration/recent onset. Apparently his tonsillitis led to an immune response by his kidneys resulting in inflammation and death in only eight months.5
