Maud Frances Roberts1

ID#224, b. 14 July 1870, d. 26 April 1947
Father: Losson Roberts
Mother: Adda Coe

Birth date: 14 July 1870
Birth place: Washington County, Ohio,
Although her birth was registered in Marshall County, West Virginia, the record states that she was actually born in Ohio ... the informant was her mother and she would certainly have known!2

Although her death certificate indicated that Maud was born on 15 July 1870 West Virginia, I believe that info to be in error. A record made at the time of an event is much more likely to be correct than one made years later.3

Another spelling of her first name is Maude.4,5

Maud married John A. McGary, son of Arthur McGary and Louisa Perkins, on 3 October 1895 at Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia. A. E. Barnes certified that he united them in marriage at his residence.5

At age 76, Maud died from cardiac failure due to cardio-vascular renal disease on 26 April 1947 at Glen Dale Hospital (now Reynolds Memorial Hospital), Glen Dale, Marshall County, West Virginia.4,3 She was interred on 29 April 1947 in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia; her name appears on the gravestone as "Maud F. McGary." The inscription reads, "Mother."6

  1. Numerous Harris researchers have used the names John Franklin Harris, Sr. and John Franklin Harris, Jr. regarding the father and son that are among the earliest settlers in Marshall County. I have yet to see any official document use the middle name of Franklin for either of them, so I will not use it until I see a source for it other than the genealogy files of other researchers. It is interesting to note that John Jr. had a son whose full name was in fact John Franklin Harris per his death certificate, but I have not found his name anywhere followed by the III suffix which would indicate that his father and grandfather also had the same middle name.
