Birth date: 25 July 1915.2 Based on the reported age of 22 on their marriage record, Layman would have been born around 1913. Perhaps he simply reported his age as 22 in order to circumvent the requirement for parental consent.1

Layman married Liberty Hill, daughter of Chalmer Sylvester Hill and Essie Irene Harris, on 11 September 1935 at Wellsburg, Brooke County, West Virginia. Robert B. Hill, a minister of the gospel, certified that he united them in marriage.1

At age 23, Layman died on 16 January 1939 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, Marshall County, West Virginia. Cause of death was obstruction of bowels due to traumatism from a former operation for appendicitis.2 He was interred on 20 January 1939 in the North View Cemetery.2
