At age 21, Walter registered in Washington District, Marshall County, West Virginia, and was described as follows: short, medium build, light brown eyes and light colored hair.1
As of 5 June 1917, Walter Ray was employed a dipper at the U. S. Stamping Company Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia.1 He was living at 1508 Fourth Street, Moundsville, West Virginia.1
