  1. [S1047] Lydick Family Bible. Sometimes referred to as the Harris Family Bible because the name of Uriah Harris is written in the front, it seems more appropriate to call it the Lydick Family Bible as the births recorded are the family of Mary Ann (Lydick) Harris. The Bible passed from the Harris' to their granddaughter, Elizabeth "Bess" (Harris) Stewart, who then gave it to her granddaughter, LIVING Suarez.

Samuel Lydick1

ID#2340, b. 11 January 1841, d. 2 May 1890
Father: Samuel Lydick
Mother: Catherine Fair

Birth date: 11 January 1841
Birth place: Virginia.1,2

As of February 1862, Samuel was a sawyer.3

Samuel married Nancy Standiford, daughter of Peter Standiford and Margaret (unknown), on 20 February 1862 at Bowman Ridge, Marshall County, Virginia. T. H. Trainer performed the marriage ceremony.3

At age 49, Samuel died on 2 May 1890.4,5 Interred in the Fork Ridge Universalist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Glen Easton, Marshall County, West Virginia, his name appears on the gravestone as "Samuel Lydick". An additional inscription reportedly reads, "Born Jan. 11, 1841 ~ Died May 2, 1890 ~ Co D 1st WVa Inf." Although the very eroded stone is hard to read in the photos appearing on the Find A Grave website, I can make out his name, birth date, and the "2" in the death date. The information in the Find A Grave memorial does agree with a cemetery reading done by Karen Hucko in 1998 that appears on the WVGenWeb site for Marshall County. For the rest of the inscription, I rely on Karen's reading knowing that she is a very careful and dedicated researcher. (Also, I have confirmed the Civil War company and regiment via military information that will eventually be added here.)4,5
